Godwithout / War Bastard – Bone Crushingly Slow Sludge Meets Melodic Death Metal

Prepare yourself for a night of intense, heavy music with Godwithout and War Bastard at The Smokehouse in Ipswich! This event brings together the crushing sounds of sludge and death metal, guaranteed to deliver powerful performances and an unforgettable atmosphere.

About the Bands

Godwithout are a four-piece sludge/death metal band from Suffolk, formed in 2025. Their unique sound blends influences from legends like Acid Bath, Crowbar, and Dystopia, alongside modern death metal bands such as 200 Stab Wounds and Sanguisugabogg. Expect slow, bone-crushing riffs mixed with melodic intensity that will captivate metal fans.

War Bastard are a brutal death metal band hailing from Essex, established in 2024. This four-piece group draws inspiration from early 90s pioneers like Suffocation, Pyrexia, Deeds of Flesh, and Defeated Sanity. Their ferocious and relentless style promises a raw and powerful live experience.

Supporting Acts

  • Chris Asker – Ipswich’s own “anti-punk hero” and Askernbury festival organiser, kicking off the night with his signature acoustic singer-songwriter set.
  • Monkey Foot Down – A newly formed guitar-and-drum duo from Colchester, featuring Gus and Deborah (ex-And I Meet You in Churches). Expect a raw, heavy mix of punk, rock, and grunge sounds.
  • The Frestonians – Ipswich duo Peter and Wendy blend punk energy with indie rock and new wave. After a stellar 2025 with radio rotation and award nominations, they bring infectious tunes and vibrant live performances to the stage.
