Information - BTCP: The Hanging Stars

Get ready for a night of “glowing, cosmic UK Americana” as Brighten The Corners presents The Hanging Stars at The Church in Ipswich! This London-based cosmic country and psychedelic folk-rock band is bringing their shimmering sound to our town on Wednesday, 7th October.

Described by MOJO as a set of epic soundtracks conjuring the spirits of Teenage Fanclub and the Velvet Underground, The Hanging Stars are a must-see for fans of timeless, vibrant music.

A Dazzling New Sound

The band arrives in Ipswich on the back of their sixth album, Just A Day. This latest work is a beautiful collection of four-part harmonies and twelve-string guitars, touching on themes of longing and new beginnings. Recorded at Edwyn Collins’ legendary Clashnarrow Studios in the Scottish Highlands, the album was produced by Teenage Fanclub’s Gerard Love and Dexy’s Sean Read.

There is a real sense of history behind their latest music; the band even used Edwyn’s vintage gear, including the Gretsch Blackhawk from his Orange Juice days. Their sound beautifully bridges the gap between the past and the future, drawing influences from The Byrds, Big Star, Spiritualized, and Tom Petty.

The Live Experience

While drummer Paulie Cobra is on a well-earned sabbatical, the band will be joined on the road by Charlie Salvidge (formerly of TOY and Proper Ornaments). Expect a performance that feels both classic and fresh, where the songs are given plenty of room to breathe in the atmospheric setting of The Church.

You Don’t Need To Be An Expert To Get Involved In Pride in Place

One of the biggest misconceptions about community projects is that they're only for people with impressive CVs, professional backgrounds or years of experience sitting on committees. The Pride in Place programme - a government investment for Whitehouse and Stoke Park/Chantry of £20m into each area over 10 years - is trying to change that.
